When looking at this image, the first things that pop up to me is the use of Similarity, Proximity, and Symmetry / Order. They use similarity with the three domes. The Proximity of those domes shows that they are “related,” so the user groups them together. The Symmetry/ Order is shown with the placement of the domes right in the center, each taking up the same amount of space and aligned equally. I don’t necessarily see a Continuation other than them using hierarchy with the domes since it’s the biggest thing on the page, making the reader look in that direction. There could be Closure because you can slightly see pillars with the space between the domes make it seem like you are seeing “outside.” Figure/Ground can be seen in the most right dome because the whole picture of the sea is not there, but we can tell that it is.
Overall, this example makes me feel calm and relaxed. The pictures seem inviting and soft. It’s aesthetically pleasing to see the images work together along with the symmetry of the domes. The domes feel like it has the right amount of space that you know they’re a group. Just taking a quick glance, the website is trying to help people who are/who will live in Kora. Because of this, they want to feel warm and comforting, which I feel like they did accomplish. I really like this design because I love the use of the photographs. Photography reminds me of vacation or documenting your life so it’s enjoyable to see them here. One thing I will say is that I wasn’t a big fan of the neon green font. I feel like a light pink outlined with a darker pink would have worked better. A light blue could have worked too if the pink was too light to see.
I took this picture when I went to go visit a family friend and went to see their garden. The way the set these plants got my attention. It displays similarity with the same pots repeating and yet, the look different because they have different plants in them. They’re different but they seem to balance each other out. The chains that are holding up the grid shows continuation because it helps direct your attention to the plant grid. It shows closure because we know the plants are forming a square despite them not touching. The proximity of the the pots let’s you know that they seem to be grouped together. The way they displayed the plants seem aligned and symmetrical. They also give each pot space for it to shine on its own.
To me, this garden grid was so satisfying to see, that’s why I decided to take a picture. It made me feel happy and it brightened my day. I think the one’s who planted it were trying to put as many different succulents in one area and not make it look to busy. The only small change I would do to it is change a few plants around so either the plants of about the same size are together, or I would spread out the big plants out to try and balance it out.
